Rudi Laermans BE

Rudi Laermans is professor emeritus of social and cultural theory at the University of Leuven, Belgium, and has been a guest lecturer in theory at several art schools, a role he continues to fulfill at P.A.R.T.S. His academic publications are situated at the intersection of classical and contemporary sociological theory, social systems theory, and critical theory in its broad sense. These frameworks also inform his work on recent social phenomena such as individualization, neoliberalism, populism, and the precarization of artistic labour. As an essayist and critic, he regularly writes on culture and the arts, including contemporary dance. He is also active as a dramaturg and translator, and is the author of numerous books, including ‘Moving Together. Making and Theorizing Contemporary Dance’.
