Lucas Messler
Lucas Messler is a French musician, percussionist, and drummer based in Belgium and France.
He is particularly active in the world of contemporary music and dance. His work focuses on several complementary areas: creation, rediscovery of the repertoire, promotion of live performance, and transdisciplinarity.
Trained in the classes at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon, he also perfected his skills at the academy of the contemporary music ensemble Ictus, with which he has collaborated regularly ever since.
His years of study gave him a strong attraction to chamber music, and in 2017 he founded the duo Symposie, followed in 2020 by the trio Matière, with which he won the Interpretation Prize at the International Percussion Competition of Luxembourg, as well as TUUM Collective in 2023. In 2022, Lucas Messler created his first show at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Lyon, Cornu Copiae, a fresco on the dizzying advance of humanity, at a forced march—a creation for which he was awarded the Mécénat Musical Société Générale scholarship.
Interested in the relationship between music, the body, and movement, Lucas Messler works actively with many dancers and choreographers. Since 2024, he has been collaborating with Solal Mariotte to create a common vocabulary based on the lexicon of analog sound synthesis, aiming to establish a dialogue between choreographic and musical gestures. In this context, he has composed the music for Ravages/Collages, currently programmed in numerous festivals. Lucas also participates in the work of Swedish choreographer Gilda Stillback, notably in the creation of the short film The Source, which has won several awards and been presented at the Bergmanweek festival.
As a freelancer, Lucas Messler is a regular member of the Ensemble Ictus and also performs with numerous chamber and orchestral ensembles such as the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Ensemble Musicatreize, the Opéra de Saint-Etienne, the Orchestre symphonique du festival Musique en Ré, and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lyon.
Since 2023, Lucas Messler has been teaching at the P.A.R.T.S dance school in workshops focused on rhythmic understanding and mastery.
